Each season has its unique flavor. With each spring comes the possibility of new growth, new ideas and energy of rebirth. When we see the first signs of the crocus emerging through the winter snow, we are reminded that life is a cycle of continuing change. Summer comes in its glory with the flowers in full bloom, green grass, trees full of beautiful leaves reaching toward the heavens for the nourishment provided by the sun’s light. It is a time to bask in the warmth of the sun, and enjoy the fruits of our labor as we tend our garden with anticipation of the harvest we will reap.
As fall approaches we see our gardens changing from green to yellow, the air changing from warm to brisk and the energy becoming softer, more reflective. It is a time of introspection, of looking at the past half year and assessing what we have accomplished. As the leaves change from green to gold, orange and red, there is winding down of energy preparing us for the hibernation that comes with winter. Fall gives us the opportunity to look at where we have come from and prepares us for where we would like to be next spring. Fall is an important season for as the gardens dry up, and the flowers die, new seeds are released with the hope of rebirth next year.
Some people see fall as a season of death and decay. I see fall as a season of release and trust. It is part of the never ending cycle of continuing change, metamorphosis.
The crocus under the ground during the fall has one hope, one focus: to emerge in the spring and be reborn. It uses the energy of the fall to rest and to prepare for the pursuit of its goal.
We can use the energy of the fall to propel us in our hopes, wishes and dreams for the future by listening to that soft reflective voice inside us and following our instincts. Now is the time to look inward and remember who we are. It is the time to gather all of our resources of past experience, letting go of hurts and fears, and finding the seeds of possibilities to plant in the rich soil of tomorrow. Now is the time to meditate and visualize what we want our seeds to grow to be, knowing that our seeds will germinate and trusting that they bloom at the appropriate time. Fall is the season to honor who we are, and who we are becoming.
